We're Annie and Greg Witkamp, aka the Wits from thewitsblog.com, and we're thrifters that seek, salvage, restore, design and sell furniture. Our passion is to collect and revamp vintage and antique furniture, lighting and decor. You can find our pieces in our etsy shop or sometimes in the Minneapolis area craigslist.
In December of 2011 we became first time homeowners. Demo, renovation, budget decorating, DIY, our furniture salvaging and more are documented at thewitsblog.com and some here as well. However, as of February 2013, we have a year to finish our house before transferring to Seattle (a dream of ours) in spring of 2014. That means our posts will be focused on our updating the house on our slim budget. Our furniture refinishing will take a backseat during this time but you better believe we'll be back to that as soon as we can.
We’re back on Tumblr (as well as our site-thewitsblog.com)…tumblr is just so much easier to work with…anywho, here’s a link to one of our recent posts about what we’re up to in the furniture salvaging world and house reno projects (surprise-we’re moving to Seattle in about a year)

Finished dresser 2. Dark French grey with antique brass and mother-of-pearl knobs. The cream paint has been left underneath the grey if distressing is desired and the drawers are painted an off-white shade. Love it. Will be hard to sell this piece but it will soon be on etsy and/or craigslist. Sigh.
I love how dresser 2 (aka grey dresser) turned out. A few coats of wax, G and I decided, would be the way to go for a more matte look. (Unlike the poly finish we put on dresser 1/blue dresser.) Once I get it settled into its room, I’ll get some pics. I don’t know if I can part with it. Until then, here’s a glimpse from our poorly lit garage-a shot that makes it look slightly purple instead of grey (still).
Dresser 1 with one coat of paint. More of our tool and limited space in the garage. Greg made his toolbox in college out of leftover wood (notice the worm wood…we think it’s neat).
Shaving the dresser top down for an improved look. The condition of the back as purchased from craigslist seller. Some tools and workspace.
First dresser project before….
We seek pieces with potential or quality furniture in modern, mid-century, vintage and antique styles/condition to lovingly and skillfully overhaul them for your viewing/buying pleasure. One with an eye for décor and the other a professional woodworker, together we are crazy about refinishing and bringing the purpose back to neglected or unattractive furniture. Follow our progress as we document each project.
